Moving to a new apartment is always an exciting experience. We all want a change of pace, a change of scenery. But before you get to enjoy your new apartment, first you need go through the trouble of – well – moving. And moving is something that could either play out well or end in total disaster.
Here are some tips on how to ensure your moving in to your new apartment turns out to be a pleasant and fun experience for everyone:
1. Your friends sacrificed a lot of their own time to help you get moving to your new apartment. Make sure you treat them out to pizza and beer—or soft drinks—afterwards for their efforts.
2. Movers helped you out a big deal as well. Tip them accordingly, but make sure any broken items are accounted and paid for based on their company’s policies.
3. Some people say, “Never look back”. But in this case you should. Clean your old place before moving out. Chances are the landowner would be pleased and offer you a substantial deposit in return for your nice gesture, as well as favorable future reference.
4. Keeps a bunch of trash bags and rolls of tapes around when you move out. You never know when these might come in handy.
5. Before you sign a contract with your new landowner, make sure to drive by your prospective apartment at night to check the scenery and atmosphere of the new location. Is it too noisy? Is there too much traffic passing by the main road? More importantly, does it look safe?

9. Make sure you inspected the apartment itself and not a model of the apartment before signing a contract with the landowner. A lot of apartment tenants make this crucial mistake and end up living in a less than favorable apartment unit.
10. All your utilities should be disconnected from your old apartment and connected to your new address – telephone, cable, Internet, water, electricity, gas, etc. Make a note of any deposits you put in so you could have them reimbursed in the future.
11. Ask around your future neighbors what they think of your prospective apartment. But keep in mind these are just their opinions.
12. Update your address information immediately after settling in. This includes relevant institutions such as your employer, government, loans, insurance, cell phone, and financial institutions.
